Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Sarai and Lazlo were left in one hell of a predicament at the end of Strange the Dreamer. Agree to help Minya take revenge upon the people of Weep, or lose Sarai’s soul to evanescence. Together with the other Godspawn they mount a protest, and are eventually joined by unexpected allies. Just when they think they’ve found a way forward, a new foe arrives. Can they humans and Godspawn work together for a better future for all? And will they ever find out what happened to the Godsawn from the nursery?

Oh my god. If you’ve read Daughter of Smoke and Bone first, like I did, the revelations here about the Seraphim and Mesarthim, and the various worlds/dimensions will make a lot more sense, and have so much more meaning. So much more. This series is connected to the first, but it’s not a spin off or sequel, it’s more a companion side story kind of deal. That ending though! I now want a crossover because they have to find Karou and give Sarai a new body.

This book was so good, I don’t even know how to put it all into words. I really enjoyed it and the character development over the course of the two books. Thyon becoming a nicer person, Suheyla’s decision at the end, Azareen and Eril Fane becoming a happy couple, Minya softening, it was all perfect.

Five Lightsabers. Just go out and read Laini’s books. If you haven’t, you really don’t know what you’re missing. They are just so beautiful and magical and well crafted. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
