Jedi Academy: Return of the Padawan by Jeffrey Brown

My next read in between reading the book club book was the second Jedi Academy book. You can read my review for the first book in the series here.

It’s Roan’s second year at Jedi Academy and he is super excited to return, see his friends Pasha and Gaiana, and continue his training, especially since they get to start Star Pilot training! Roan is sure he will be the best student in the class when it comes to learning to be a pilot. The Academy also gets a new staff member, Gammy, the Gamorrean cafeteria cook, much to everyone’s dismay.

However, things don’t exactly go the way Roan wants them too. Pilot training gets off to a rough start, he thinks Pasha is mad at him, that Gaiana is ignoring him because she no longer wants to be friends, and he just seems to not get anything right. To his surprise, the class bully’s start being nice to him. It isn’t long before their influence on him starts to make things worse and Roan is left with the choice to cheat to help them win the Lightsaber Fencing Tournament, or to play it fair.

This is a great middle school series for those into Star Wars or are fans of other diary and cartoon series like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Roan suffers the perils and triumphs of middle school and learns valuable lessons about friendship and life all in a unique setting.

I’m going to give this one 3.5 Lightsabers though since I didn’t think it was as good as the first. That being said, I hope this series continues since it is a great addition to the middle school diary books and cartoon books offered.
